About the Brister Replica Sheltershed
The Brister Replica Sheltershed is a reconstruction of one of the many small passenger shelters that once dotted the Ohio River & Western Railroad. These simple structures provided rural communities with a place to wait for mixed trains, receive express shipments, and connect with the outside world.
A Partnership in Preservation
This replica sheltershed was cosmetically restored in collaboration with the Noble County Historical Society, using historically accurate paint colors and accurate name boards based on surviving OR&W photographs and field measurements.
Why This Project Matters
Very few OR&W structures survive today. Recreating a sheltershed allows visitors to experience the scale, simplicity, and character of rural narrow‑gauge railroading in southeastern Ohio. It also provides an interpretive space for educational programs and historical displays.
