About Combine 29
Combine 29 is one of the few remaining pieces of rolling stock from the Ohio River & Western Railroad.
As a combination passenger and baggage car, it served communities along the OR&W by carrying passengers, mail, express freight, and essential goods.
When a railroad ceases operation, what happens to the railroad equipment? Well, if the car is lucky, they get a second chance at life and are repurposed. That is the case of Comine 29. After the railroad shut down, this car served as a single bedroom residence.
Current Condition
The car has deteriorated siding, but the main underframe and roof line are sound.
We've successfully lifted, loaded, and moved the car from the property. It handled all of these tests very well.
We are currently waiting on a suitable location/ workshop to begin restoration work.

The door for this end of the car was located 30 yards away from the car in a pile of building material.
The Friends purchased two of these heavy duty trailers to support moving cars.
This end was removed to be able to add on an addition while Combine 29 served as a rental property.
Adding new material to the weakened beam.
Fruhquip of Zanesville, Oh. was contracted to perform the lift and trailer load.
Carefully raising the car high enough for the trailer to fit underneath.

A long time coming, the car handled the lift very well.
Next step is to apply additional bracing and attach the car to the trailer.
Two large heavy duty tarps were used to wrap the car.
