October 14, 2023 Work Day

During the last Work Day, the Friends of the OR&W noticed that the pillars holding the car up were leaning.... leaning to the point that it was uncertain that the car would survive another winter. The primary objective was to sure up the pillars and help keep the car standing. Another tarp was added to cover the seam of the two tarps that were added previously. Enjoy the pictres of that day below. (Pictures will open in new window.)

In the early 2000's, there was an effort to preserve this car. Though the car remains in the field, this effort is why the car still exists to this day. Here you can see concrete block pillars sinking into the earth and leaning slightly.

Look at the angle of the pillar! At the first work session for the car, suring up the pillars was a priority.

Stacks of pallets were used as temporary support pillars to stabilize the car. Wooden beams were used to tie the two stacks of pallets together and to help distribute the weight and assist the original pillars.

Something we noticed.... if you look closely, you can make out a partial of the original car number.
