Combine 29 Move Day
Combine 29 has been sucessfully moved from the location where it has been for 97 years! Pulled by a small dump truck, the trailer FoORWHS #1 handled the load with ease.
After almost a century (97 years) OR&W Combine #29 has left the property it was left at when the Scrappers were scrapping the west end of the railroad in 1928!
Sold to the locals along the line, old railroad cars were purchased to be turned into storage buildings, animal shelters, and even living quarters.
For some cars, this prolonged their life. Combine #29 was one of these cars. After being rented out as and apartment (with room add on), it saw a second chance of survival thanks to some local railroad historians that helped stabilize the car by removing the room add on and supporting the roof. Without their efforts, Combine 29 would not be here today.
The Friends of the Ohio River and Western Historical Society are giving Combine #29 its third chance of survival with plans to make it a rolling history display.
This is your chance to help us save a piece of our local history. Please consider donating to help Combine #29's restoration efforts.
